Chimpanzees, zebras, Western lowland gorillas, Asian elephants and Galapagos tortoises are just some of the amazing animals who make Taronga Zoo their home. The endangered Tasmanian Devil, now only found in the wildlife preserves in Tasmania, is one of the threatened species that the zoo is working to protect. The zoo’s on-site hospital regularly rehabilitates wildlife, including little penguins, sea eagles, owls and other birds that are injured in the wild. Its conservation partnerships outside the zoo’s borders help communities preserve species and habitats.

You can take a quick trip to the zoo, but it may take several hours, to fully appreciate all it has to offer. Pack a picnic and lay out in the zoo’s green spaces or eat at the on-site restaurant. In between walks to visit the extraordinary creatures, listen to a zookeeper talk about the environment and the incredible animals that inhabit it.

Take the Taronga Zoo ferry for a scenic, pleasantly direct ferry ride to spend a day with the animals.
